What is Your Focus and How Can this Affect Your Business Goals?

No doubt you have end-of-the-year goals for your business. Maybe it’s to get that website up finally, or to blog more, or to grow your business or to earn a certain amount of income. Today I propose a question for your consideration: Where is your focus? Seems easy enough. After all, we all wake up, get ready, grab our coffee, pump ourselves up and do the best we can.

Have you noticed lately that it seems like what you focus on is what you get more of?

For example: If your focus is, “I need to sell more product, which is going to be tough given this economy, so I can pay December’s bills.” This is a common focus – we all need to pay our bills, right? The key is in how you mentally approach your goals. This hypothetical person is rooted in fear of not being able to pay bills and so will go out and try to sell based on their needs, not the needs of others.

Focusing on fear creates more opportunity for fear to enter your life.

Let’s take the same goal (to sell more product) and alter the focus: “More people need my product because it truly works and can help many, therefore I’m going to go sell some more product. This will also help me pay my bills. Win-win!” Believe it or not, this slight change in perspective will take your miles further in your success journey.

When you pump yourself up in the morning, just before you go out and do your best for the day, root yourself in good intention for others (not fear). Go out and do the best job you can of helping as many people as possible because you have a gift and a message to share with the world. Now is your opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. You will be richer than you ever could have imagined by following that principal.

So what gives? Why this blog post today?

I want you all to build and grow your business. I want you all to hit your goals. I want you all to finish the year with a bang. Sometimes we get so caught up in the financial aspect that we lose sight of why we opened this business in the first place. This week I invite you to focus on your clients (new and existing). Send a genuine thank you card (yes, in the mail) to your existing clients letting them know how you feel about them. Spend a little extra time with new clients to teach them something that’s maybe not in the protocol.

Live for others this week and see what happens.

Pass It On: If you like this idea, please share this post on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. Let’s see how many lives we can improve this week!
