You’ve seen them all over… especially within the past year. Website owners are catching on that building a list of email subscribers is the most valuable online asset.

What Have We Learned?

  • Make your Opt-In box *stand out* on your page. Visually direct your visitors on what you want them to do
  • With everyone asking for your email, you’d better have a worth-while offer as incentive otherwise you won’t be getting many visitors. A newsletter won’t cut it anymore unfortunately.
  • Don’t ask for too much information. A name and email (or email field alone) is all you need, and all your visitors are willing to give away.

I’ve posted some examples below of opt-in boxes. You’ll see a wide variety from the way the box looks, what links are featured, what products are offered and more.

Hi Luke – You absolutely should have a graphic in your opt-in box to make it convert better. These sign-up boxes have to be designed by a website or graphic designer and I would be happy to provide a quote to you. We would take a graphic of the report or video or mp3 you’re giving away and then add the look and feel to match your website while making it pop on the page. It is important that you have a sign-up box that is visually attractive and engaging. It’s a priority on your site for sure, so it needs to be a visual priority so the eyes of your visitor go there. The ideal placement is at the top right sidebar on in the right side of the header area of your website. Once the sign-up box is designed, we get a programmer to code the design in to the website. Then all we need to do is connect the form to an email management system – the one I always recommend to clients is iContact and you can get a 30-day free trial at EmailWithIcontact.com. An email management system will allow you to collect and store email addresses, and also send an automatic Welcome Email containing a link to download your free gift and instructions on how else you may be able to offer a benefit to your subscriber (invite them to view your blog, connect with you on social networks, etc.). The whole process doesn’t take very long but it’s essential as your email list is your #1 online asset! If you have any additional questions or would like a custom quote for your project, please feel free to contact me using the Contact button in the top navigation bar. Have a great day! :)

I agree myself, I know I need to have it stand out but don’t know quite how to get there. I like the tips by Marty one because the picture is in it. But how do you go about doing that? i would need help on that.

That’s great! I am in process of “sprucing up” my own too. I would love to see what you come up with if you can send a link to your website. :) Cheers!

Thanks Amber, I am in the process of sprucing up my optin box and that was just what I needed!
