3 Tricks to Develop Blog Post Content People Want to Read + 1 More

We’ve seen it time and time again where we type in a search phrase into Google and an old, outdated blog pops up. (Well, that won’t last anymore, click here to see why, but that’s the way it has been until now.) A blog that someone started, wrote a few posts and bailed. Why they don’t just tear down the site from the Internet altogether, I don’t know.

My sunny theory: I don’t think the blog owner got lazy, but rather, they didn’t know what to say! How many times have you thought, “I should write a blog post, it’s been a while..” yet you still don’t get it done. You worry if what you write will be what people want to read… will they care? will they share it? will they comment, or not?

I say, forget the noise and just write. People WILL care. You WILL help others. And the more you write, the more people will share your content and comment on it.

DIY (Effective!) Search Engine Optimization for WordPress Users – Get Results!

You’ve heard the buzz before, “You need SEO – Search Engine Optimization!” Most don’t know what that means – and that is OK. Today’s post is for you.

When you publish a new page or post, Google “spiders” (automated software) scan the page for “keywords”. These spiders are analyzing everything about that page to determine where to index that page within the billions of pages in the Google search engine. Once you’re in the habit of optimizing your blog posts (and pages), you will see major benefits and a dramatic increase in website traffic.

If you go to www.Google.com and search under the keyword phrase “personal development”, you will notice 100,000,000+ pages are indexed in Google. Google will rank a page based on over 200 sets of criteria which can include design elements, programming style, etc.

Search Engine Optimization 101

Let’s lay out a foundation for SEO by teaching you how pages are indexed in Google. When you publish an article, Google “spiders” (automated software) go into each article and scans the page for “keywords”. These spiders are analyzing everything about that page to determine where to index that page within the billions of pages in the Google search engine. For example, if you go to www.Google.com and search under the keyword phrase “personal development”, you will notice 171,000,000 pages are indexed in Google.

Google will rank a page (article) based on over 200 sets of criteria which can include design elements, programming style, etc. Since Google is scanning your content, you can see the value of trying to give Google as much “help” as possible.

A Lesson on Duplicate Content – Can It Do More Harm Than Good?

Duplicate content means large blocks of text copied from one website to another. Maybe you liked an article someone wrote and decide to copy a big block of the article to share on your website. This is considered duplicate content but Google says, “mostly, this is not deceptive in origin” and therefore is considered “non-malicious”.

In many cases (pay attention here) duplicate content is deliberate (or maybe you do it not knowing the repercussions, hence today’s informational post). You wrote an article and want it to be published on as many website as possible in order to get more traffic or as Google says, “manipulate search engine rankings”. There are dozens of ways you can reproduce that exact same article on dozens or even hundreds of other websites if you know the right tools. But, what does Google think about it?

Ian Lurie, Conversation Marketing and The On-Page SEO Cheatsheet

Today I’d like to share with you a wonderful Internet Marketing resource that I came across the other day. Ian Lurie runs a popular blog called “Conversation Marketing“.

Ian says, “After 13 years as an Internet marketer, I’ve pieced together my experiences with the technology, communications and design issues inherent in our business, and built Conversation Marketing as a rubric for good decision making.”

Ian’s writing is witty, smart and full of valuable goodies. One great goodie I found was titled, “The On-Page SEO Cheatsheet“. It’s a 2-page visual SEO guide which teaches you the top priority SEO tactics you need to learn to get ranked well in Google, Bing and other top search engines.

I printed this guide and when I read the tips I was very impressed with the depth of knowledge Ian was giving away for FREE. Impressive. I signed up for his list so I could get blog posts in my email and I think you should too.
