If you’ve studied Internet Marketing at all, you’ve heard “build a list, build a list, build a list!” This is sound advice. Building a list of email addresses, people that are interested in following you – this can be your greatest online asset over time. Of course you’ll want to handle your “list” with care. Don’t spam, don’t email every day, etc etc. Follow my logic here for a moment… People are subscribing to lists less and less. Some have asked if that burst of squeeze pages, newsletter signup forms and ethical bribes (like an eBook giveaway) are going away for good even. No, I don’t believe they are. I still sign up for people’s lists all the time. Why not?? You can unsubscribe at any time! If you stumble across a blog or website that provides great content and gets your energized you’re crazy not to opt-in to their list. You’ll get little “reminders” of that excitement plus you’ll stay current in your industry (IMPORTANT!). Ok, so some question if the “opt-in phase” is gone – I say no. But, I do believe it is becoming increasingly harder to make an offer so irresistible that someone would sign up [...]

A backlink is basically a link to your website from another website (an inbound link). Backlinks are key to good Search Engine Optimization (SEO)! The more links you have pointing to your website, it conveys a message to Google and Bing about how important your website is. The more important your website is, the higher you rank in search engines. Another reason backlinks are key is because it opens portals for getting traffic from different avenues. If you have 50 websites linking to yours and they all get decent traffic – imagine how that could boost your visitation! Note: Google ranks a page or post of your website based on over 200 sets of criteria. Backlinks are merely one of them. But, a key one. How to Gets Lots of Backlinks Spoiler alert: There are no quick-to-implement or “overnight success” tips here. If you’re looking to get 1,500 backlinks in a day, go to the other websites that look like scams. Then you’ll find that just like every other idea relating to Internet Marketing… it takes time and consistency to build a large network of backlinks. So, the key is to get your website URL on other websites, right? [...]

I had been studying Internet Marketing from the top experts in the industry – and a few became great friends. I have had excellent mentors that showed me how and why to do certain marketing aspects – avoiding the ones that didn’t matter. But, I still had to try it on my own. You can have all the education in the world, but it’s the execution that really starts your training. So today I share some of the things I’ve done to keep me on mark with my goals to getting traffic, getting subscribers, and just plain enjoying the ride! Your mindset: This truly is where you need to start before sitting down to write out a strategy. With the panic in the air due to the economy, people everywhere are trying to “hurry and get online”. What those people don’t know, is how much patience you need to have. Getting 1,000 visitors to your website does not happen overnight unless you know some heavy players with some huge lists. It takes a consistent and focused effort.
Custom Twitter Backgrounds (see below for examples) can hands down increase your followers! If you are using Twitter to get business exposure then you need as many followers as you can get your hand on. What if I get a follower who doesn’t appear to be interested in my Twitter topics? It doesn’t matter. When “SarahJ” becomes a follower of you, your tweets show up in her Feed (where all of HER followers can see what tweets SarahJ’s followers make). So, naturally, someone else in SarahJ’s network will be interested in what you have to say…then that person will follow you too. Now you are showing up in that person’s feed where even more can see what you have to tweet. See how it snowballs?? There are plenty of tips I can give you about maximizing Twitter. A few include… Tweet often! The more you tweet, the more followers (and business!) you will get. Try twittering at different times of the day to see when you get the best responses. Use tools like Social Oomph to schedule tweets to drop later (if you’re busy like me), twollow to auto-follow targeted followers that are interested or working in your market, and/or [...]

“I want to start an Internet business but know nothing about it and don’t have a lot of money to start it. Can you point me in the right direction to accomplish this? What are the most lucrative type Internet businesses?” Dear Entrepreneur – You have quite the journey ahead, but it’s absolutely possible. I can tell you that getting your business online or even starting a blog would be a smart move…it’s just where things are headed. Starting a blog is honestly your best bet on a low budget. You can start your own WordPress blog (wordpress.com) for free – it will just take time. You can create your own look and feel by choosing a theme. A blog is sort of an online diary of sorts. You can take my blog as an example. I started this blog to express my knowledge on Internet Marketing and starting an online business, plus a few other goodies like sharing my network and explaining step-by-step how things work on many subjects. That is an example of a blog you could start (maybe on a different topic). It all starts with the first step. So I would get a blog to share [...]

I was just on a forum and saw this question: Does anyone have any suggestions for low to no cost methods for marketing the service offered by one’s website? I thought I’d share my reply for you to also benefit from… My boss wrote a free report on “101 Realistic Ways to Bring Traffic to Your Web Site”. We give it to all of our clients once we publish their website and it is an AMAZING resource. Most of the methods are ways without spending at money, just time. You can get it here: http://www.herenextyear.com/help-topics/get-more-web-site-traffic.php But, off the cuff, here’s a few things I would suggest: Spread the word! Your signature on every email should have your website URL and tagline. Get on social networks and give tips, share quotes, talk about what you do in a way that people would want more information. One of the best ways, seriously, is to start a blog. If your service is Health Care consulting, you could blog about recent new articles [...]
