Acts of Simple Kindness, Inc. (ASK), www.actsofsimplekindness.org, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization that provides financial grants to children, through the age of 18, to continue or pursue extracurricular activities in the areas of education, sports, music and the arts following the death of a parent.
Karen Turner established Acts of Simple Kindness (ASK) after her husband, Steve, died suddenly and unexpectedly in August of 2007. ASK incorporates the initials of Steve, Karen and their son Allen. After nearly 10 years together, she found herself instantly thrown into the world of widowhood and single parenthood with a 4 1/2 year old son. Sad, scared and overwhelmed, she had no idea how she would continue on without her best friend while navigating the journey of grief for herself and their young son. It was a very difficult time, though one which also inspired her in unfamiliar ways. As Karen bore witness to her son seeking ways to express himself, she realized he often turned to play and outside activities as a way to sort out what he was feeling.
The loss of a spouse and parent is difficult enough without worrying about how to afford the programs that will bring their grieving children happiness, provide stability and often fulfill a wish of a parent no longer here to grant the wish themselves. Acts of Simple Kindness, Inc. was created so that this very important and overlooked need would be provided for.
Acts of Simple Kindness needs you! Your financial support enables us to provide the benefits we offer to the children of widows and widowers who need our services. Without it we simply cannot exist. By partnering with us, you will enable us to extend our benefits to more children.
