Ian Lurie, Conversation Marketing and The On-Page SEO Cheatsheet

Today I’d like to share with you a wonderful Internet Marketing resource that I came across the other day. Ian Lurie runs a popular blog called “Conversation Marketing“.

Ian says, “After 13 years as an Internet marketer, I’ve pieced together my experiences with the technology, communications and design issues inherent in our business, and built Conversation Marketing as a rubric for good decision making.”

Ian’s writing is witty, smart and full of valuable goodies. One great goodie I found was titled, “The On-Page SEO Cheatsheet“. It’s a 2-page visual SEO guide which teaches you the top priority SEO tactics you need to learn to get ranked well in Google, Bing and other top search engines.

I printed this guide and when I read the tips I was very impressed with the depth of knowledge Ian was giving away for FREE. Impressive. I signed up for his list so I could get blog posts in my email and I think you should too.

IM FacePlate: Another Internet Marketing Tool to Increase Traffic/Exposure via Social Networking

Within the past few posts, we’ve talked about Backlinks (and their awesome powers!) plus these Online Interactive Contact Cards (DooID and OnePage) that keep popping up everywhere. IM FacePlate is a new Internet Marketing tool you can use to create more traffic, more exposure AND give you more backlinks! I knew you’d get interested.

IM FacePlate is very similar to LinkedIn actually, but has some cool add-ons and an advanced internal marketing area to help you promote your faceplate. Here’s an image to give you an example of my IM FacePlate:

The first thing I want you to notice is that signup box in the top middle that says “Get Email Updates From Amber”. Yes, you can add HTML code into their system and it displays your Email List Building Opt-in Newsletter Signup Box. I haven’t really seen anyone popular but Facebook do this yet. About time!

What is a Backlink and How to Get Lots of Them!

A backlink is basically a link to your website from another website (an inbound link). Backlinks are key to good Search Engine Optimization (SEO)! The more links you have pointing to your website, it conveys a message to Google and Bing about how important your website is. The more important your website is, the higher you rank in search engines. Another reason backlinks are key is because it opens portals for getting traffic from different avenues. If you have 50 websites linking to yours and they all get decent traffic – imagine how that could boost your visitation!

Note: Google ranks a page or post of your website based on over 200 sets of criteria. Backlinks are merely one of them. But, a key one.

Blog-Site Setup Tips:

  1. Do not type your email address into a page and expose it for the world to see. You will increase your spam emails ten-fold. Instead, add in a “Contact form” to your site and link to that page.
  2. Choose a domain name with these ideas in mind: Two or three words, anyone can spell it, easy to remember, and relates to the main topic or theme you plan to write about.
