Low-to-No Cost Methods for Driving Traffic

Not everyone can afford thousands of dollars to spend on hiring a web development and marketing team to help them keep up with the more than 200,000,000 blogs out there alone. I was just on a forum and saw this question:

Does anyone have any suggestions for low to no cost methods for marketing the service offered by one’s website?

I thought I’d share my reply for you to also benefit from…

My boss wrote a free report on “101 Realistic Ways to Bring Traffic to Your Web Site”. We give it to all of our clients once we publish their website and it is an AMAZING resource. Most of the methods are ways without spending at money, just time.

You can get it here: http://www.herenextyear.com/help-topics/get-more-web-site-traffic.php

But, off the cuff, here’s a few things I would suggest:

Facebook Changing to Look More Like Twitter?

In Today’s New York Times article, “Facebook Is Going for Some Twitter Sensibility“…

By CLAIRE CAIN MILLER

SAN FRANCISCO — Like a balding hipster who imitates a young trendsetter’s style, Facebook is updating itself to look a lot more like Twitter.

Unlike Facebook, where friends mutually agree to let one another into their online lives, Twitter lets people share updates and links with anyone who cares to read them.

That has turned Twitter into a tool for people to peer into the collective mind and see what people are talking about in real time. It is also a tool for businesses to reach customers and monitor what their customers are saying about them.

facebook-twitterFacebook seems to be very interested in those features. Since last fall, when Facebook tried and failed to acquire Twitter, it has been slowly introducing features that mimic Twitter.

Darrell Hornbacher, of www.Midas-Financial.com, approached me this morning and asked if I would please design a cover for his upcoming eBook (sure to be a hit!). I was more than happy to help out. I thought I’d share with you what was created, where the ideas came from and what his response was.

How to Add Spacing in WordPress for HTML and Visual Editors

wordpressI have done a lot of researching about the WordPress spacing issues that can sometimes get in our way. Primarily when you switch from HTML view to Visual view, you’ve noticed that your spacing is removed. Then you’d have to go back into the HTML view to add in the <br/> tags, or you try to add spacing in Visual. Please see below for what I discovered and how to get around that issue:

First, here’s what I discovered. Yes, when you switch between HTML and Visual all spacing, center, and paragraph tags are stripped. WordPress is created on a very specific and new type of code called XHTML which is similar to standard HTML code, but with a few new rules designed to make your website viewable from any Internet browser and version (FireFox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.). This XHTML code can cause ‘dehydration’. Meaning if you are editing an existing page, and are not working in the HTML view of a page/post, it will strip all spacing (dehydrating the page).

Facebook Today: No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick. If you agree, please post this as your status for the rest of the day.

This status post is all over Facebook tonight. The famous “Scrubs” actor Zach Braff was one of thousands to partake in this viral opinion. As of 8pm MST, he has 2,768 people who marked they liked this idea and 655 of his friends commented on the post.

Comments such as:

Amy Verschueren Pimentel – I hope universal health care does pass, then I don’t have to work for a living anymore and you all can work to support my ass.

My only comment to that: Really???

Liz Hernandez – 100% agreed

Lynn Zott – Thanks for posting this, Zach. I’ve been taking shit from some of my FB “friends” all day for posting it, but was gratified to see so many other FB friends post it as well. Gives me some shred of hope for our future.

Thank You to Wendy Mack

A VERY heartfelt thank you goes out to Wendy Mack, a corporate trainer and change leadership specialist. I had a blast building her website, www.WendyMack.com, and look forward to continuing to help her achieve the highest levels of success she deserves!

What’s the Deal with Affiliate Marketing and Social Media?

By now you’ve heard a little something about affiliate marketing – enough to know you should be an affiliate. You’ve also heard how imperative social media is.

Wanna hear my two cents? Below you’ll find a 20-minute audio where I was interviewed by Pam Zimmer. Feel free to download, SHARE, or listen straight from this post.

What questions did I answer?

  • Why would someone want to sign up as an affiliate and what are the benefits?
  • What is a “mask URL” and when/why would you want to use one?
  • How can you leverage being an affiliate to market and grow your business?
  • If someone is new to social media and wanted to create the most opportunity for a book release, what are the top things they should do?
  • What other tips can I offer to have more success with affiliate marketing and social media?
